The Royal Way (Royal Route) is famous and the most glamorous route in Kraków. It leads right through the heart of the city, so it’s the best choice if you are in Kraków for the first time. In the old days Royal Route was followed by Polish monarchs, heroes and their envoys entering the city and heading for the Royal Castle on Wawel Hill. Following their steps you will see a great number of Krakow’s most famous sites. The route starts near the city walls, where you can admire the XIV-century Florian Gate and powerful fortress – the Barbican. Afterwards, the route leads along Floriańska street up to the Main Market Square where you can visit St. Mary Basilica, beautiful renaissance Cloth Hall and gothic Town Hall Tower. Then the way takes you along the Grodzka street which crosses All Saints’ Square, where within easy reach are the gothic Franciscan church with splendid art-nouveau stain glasses, and Dominican church with it’s magnificent chapels. A little bit later you will see St. Peter and St. Paul baroque church and romanesque church of St. Andrew. Afterwards, we enter Kanonicza Street, considered by some to be the most charming medieval street in the world. The royal way ends up on the Wawel Hill where we can visit the Cathedral - a pantheon of Polish kings and heroes, and the Royal Castle – fantastic example of renaissance architecture.
